Your role

As an Electronics Engineer, you’ll take responsibility for the repair and maintenance of high-tech onboard combat systems, which include:

  • sonar
  • navigation
  • communications
  • electronic warfare
  • combat management system networks, and
  • weapons fire control.

At sea, you will be the engineering authority responsible for the vessel’s combat and self-defence capabilities. On land your position will include duties such as combat system trials as well as the training and management of sailors.

Another major aspect of your role will be to stay abreast of combat system upgrades and developments. The Navy introduces new ships and electronic systems on a regular basis so your job will be constantly challenging and changing.

During times of updates and developments, you will be involved in:

  • monitoring system performance
  • developing modifications
  • evaluating repair schemes, and
  • supervising equipment trials.
