Australian Government Department of Human Services

  • 1,000 - 50,000 employees
  • Work on a variety of projects to shape your career
  • Make a positive difference to the lives of Australians
  • On the job training and professional development

Work in one of Australia's largest government departments. Design, develop, deliver, coordinate and monitor a range of government services.

When you join our department you'll help deliver more than $140 billion in payments through the services provided by Centrelink, Child Support, Medicare and Australian Hearing.

If you want to build a rewarding career and provide social and health related services to the majority of Australians, we can get you started.

We give you lots of opportunities to use the skills and knowledge you gained at university.

Our 10 month program offers two pathways – Generalist and Professional.

Our Generalist pathway accepts applicants with degrees from all disciplines and gives you broad exposure to the operations of the department. You'll experience two placements, each lasting five months. This allows you to participate in diverse projects and learn how different areas operate.

The Professional pathway provides a single placement, allowing you to specialise and develop your skills in a particular area. This year, we are recruiting six disciplines within the Professional pathway:

  • communication
  • data analytics
  • finance
  • human resources
  • legal
  • social work

To be eligible you must:

  • be an Australian citizen on 4 April 2018
  • be willing to relocate if required
  • have completed or due to complete an undergraduate or post graduate degree between 6 March 2015 and early February 2019.

Our department is committed to providing a working environment that values diversity and inclusion, and supports all staff to reach their full potential.

Our commitment is demonstrated through workplace diversity and inclusion strategies, policies and initiatives. Our team would be happy to talk with you about our RecruitAbility scheme available to candidates who identify as having disability, and our Affirmative Measures recruitment process for candidates who identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians.

If you successfully complete the program you'll advance to an APS5 position, earning $73,226 a year. Not only that, you'll have access to a wide range of staff benefits including annual leave, flexible working arrangements, excellent superannuation benefits and more!
