  • Make a positive difference to the lives of Australians
  • Work on a variety of projects to shape your career

When you join our department you'll help deliver more than $173 billion in payments. We offer a range of health, social and welfare payments and services through:

  • Centrelink
  • Child Support
  • Medicare

We touch the lives of almost every Australian. Our department provides essential payments and services to help people meet life's challenges. We help when people have lost a job, a loved one or when they're separating from a partner.

The services we deliver make a difference to the lives of the people we serve.

Our graduate program gives you lots of opportunities to use the skills and knowledge you gained at university.

The program has 2 unique experiences. All graduates take part in our Outbound experience. You'll spend 3 days working in a local service centre or Smart Centre. You'll see how the work we do makes a positive difference to the lives of Australians. You can also apply for the Indigenous and Multicultural Placement. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to spend up to 3 months working in an indigenous or multicultural community.

Our 10 month program offers two pathways – Generalist and Professional.

Our Generalist pathway accepts applicants with degrees from all disciplines and gives you broad exposure to the operations of the department. You'll experience 2 placements, each lasting 5 months. This allows you to participate in diverse projects and learn how different areas operate.

The Professional pathway provides a single placement, allowing you to specialise and develop your skills in a particular area. This year, we are recruiting 6 disciplines within the Professional pathway:

  • communication
  • data analytics
  • finance
  • human resources
  • legal
  • social work

To be eligible you must:

  • be an Australian citizen on 15 April 2019
  • be willing to relocate if required
  • have completed or due to complete an undergraduate or post graduate degree between 19 March 2016 and 6 February 2020
  • have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60 or above to apply for the Legal discipline.

Our department is committed to providing a working environment that values diversity and inclusion, and supports all staff to reach their full potential.

Our team would be happy to talk with you about our RecruitAbility scheme available to candidates who identify as having disability. We can also talk to you about our Affirmative Measures recruitment process for candidates who identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians.
