Culture at BAE Systems

8.3
8.3 rating for Culture, based on 37 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
On the whole, there is a very good culture which supports graduates and emphasises diversity in the workplace. There are many people who have worked for 20 -30 + years with the company which shows it is a good place to work and stay. I don't see the level of turnover that I have seen with other workplaces I have worked in professionally. Also I commend the company on its commitment to programs to enhance diversity in the workplace.

All colleagues are approachable and helpful. There is a strong culture of maximizing the quality of our work, and everyone supports everyone to deliver everything to the BAE standard. It's great to see all my colleagues embody that. There is a strong, well defined hierarchy, which makes it easy to know who is working with whom. However, the Cell Leads make it clear that you don't have to operate exclusively within your cell, you can approach others for assistance or to contribute to other projects. It's comforting to have beneficial structure of a hierarchy along with the flexible culture of a flatter organization. I have noticed a bit of an age gap in the social groups, however I have read this is typical. Whilst all members at the Williamstown site are encouraged to socialize (entire site BBQs, afterwork drinks, etc.), you generally see people socialize with others in their age group.

I have had limited opportunity in my first 3 weeks to be exposed to the work culture after hours, however the office is a very nice environment to work in which reflects on the company's strong culture.

Opportunities exist for staff to socialize out of hours and people are friendly and interested in sharing their interests with new staff

Well developed and structured hierarchy in place. All projects are team based. Everyone is helpful and their are several social activities to round out the work-play balance.

Good work culture. Everyone is easy to get along with. Regular after work activities are organised that helps team bonding.

Seems to be friendly but results focussed beyond all else.

Very social and welcoming. It's a very inclusive environment and my coworkers are always happy to talk with me about current projects.

Colleagues are friendly and feels nice to work with most people. It is easy to work with other people (as long as they are on same project) and easy to get in touch with people higher up.

Some teams can be great and mine has a very friendly culture. There is a lot of bitching across the office though as far as I can see. Everyone seems frantic a lot and doesn't really see the bigger picture or point, so not that productive - more of a see how it goes

Socialising is common at project level but rarely at the organisational level or business unit level, operate as teams and collaborate to problem solve,

The company structure is well defined, and the individual managers are supportive of each individual. The work hours are normal, with flexibility of starting times, whilst the socializing is humorous and welcoming in the daily environment.

People working here are helpful as to whatever question asked will be answered. Everyone respects each other even though they are different hierarchy of business. Unfortunately, there isn't much going on after hours as everyone has different commitments.

Good office culture - professional, a total lack of culture after hours.
Midlevel - 21 Feb 2018
Flexi-hours, free fruit, friendly staff, social events, harmonious atmosphere

My team is very social, hangs out at lunch and catches up outside of work once a week. Work is taken seriously with plenty of teamwork and cooperation, where structure is appropriately organised and allows work to flow well within each colleagues capability.

Culture is very relaxed. We have fun during the day and some of us spend time together even after hours. We focus on flexible working arrangements that then enables a better outcome of the work we do. We are trusted and encouraged to be brave and innovative.

Happy work environment. Team bonding activities are continuously planned to build team morale. BAE Systems has a very inclusive environment towards different cultures, ethnicities, age, gender an religion. We also pride ourselves on our core values and welcome our new Indigenous partnerships.
