Woodside's Timor-Leste Professional Development Program

About Woodside

Woodside pioneered the LNG industry in Australia more than 30 years ago. Now, we are leading the industry's digital transformation.

We have an outstanding base business of world-class assets and strong growth prospects – plus the experience, capability and vision to make things happen. As Australia’s premier LNG operator, we produce 6% of global LNG supply. Our producing LNG assets in the north west of Australia are among the world’s best facilities, renowned for their safety, reliability and efficiency. We are creating an integrated LNG production centre on the Burrup Peninsula in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Our exploration plan focuses on established, emerging and future growth hubs in Australia, Myanmar, Senegal, Gabon, Peru and Bulgaria.

Wherever we work, we are committed to upholding our values of integrity, respect, discipline, excellence, working sustainably and working together.

Technology and innovation are essential to our long-term sustainability. Today, we are pioneering remote support and the application of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics in our business. Technology also features in Mia Yellagonga, our state-of-the-art campus in Perth, Western Australia. Mia Yellagonga has a six Green Star rating, advanced wellness features and a variety of workspace choices.

We will play our part in the global response to climate change by continuing to provide reliable and sustainable energy in a lower-carbon future. Our contribution includes reducing and managing our own emissions, and developing new markets for LNG to displace higher-emissions fuels.

Our success is driven by our people, and we aim to attract, develop and retain a diverse, high-performing workforce.

What our students can expect

We’ve been recruiting and developing students and graduates for more than 30 years, and we’re proud to be rated as a top-ten employer by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers.  We recognise the value of connecting with students earlier in their studies. Our Timor-Leste Professional Development Program is a chance for us to get to know you, and for you to apply your growing knowledge to our business.

Our program runs full-time for 12 weeks and you will be given the opportunity to undertake a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment that will provide:

  • 12 weeks paid work experience that will allow you to make Woodside and broader industry contacts.
  • Career development skills.
  • Technical, business and personal skills training.
  • Access to a vibrant community of students and recent graduates. You'll have a dedicated current graduate as a go-to support person while you're on the program.
  • Active employee community groups for gender equality, reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and LGBTI+ staff and allies.

Who we look for

We look for innovators and passionate problem solvers from wide range of degrees. Try our new tool to match your degree with our graduate disciplines, and find the best fit for you. Woodside is an increasingly inclusive and diverse company. No matter your field or background, you share the same values we do – and you can demonstrate it.

We offer positions to motivated and talented Timor-Leste nationals currently enrolled full time at an Australian university (undergraduate or post-graduate degree), who want to undertake solid, meaningful work experience over the 12 week summer break in various engineering and non-technical disciplines. Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have a valid right to live, work and study in Australia.  A copy of documentation evidencing this must be provided and must be valid for the full duration of the program.

Pros and cons of working at Woodside Energy AU

Pros

  • I am surrounded by amazing people on my team who are caring and nurturing and always there for me. They care for me both professionally and personally.

  • Great peer group and networks, learning development support and visibility to senior leaders.

  • Very high level of responsibility given to graduates in Subsea and Pipelines. There are plenty of opportunities to go offshore and on site to learn. Professional development is valued.

  • The level of responsibility which is entrusted to graduates makes them strive to perform at higher levels.

  • Flexibility in role. Great variety of roles available in company. Open to developing different skills. Very good and friendly culture.

Cons

    • Roles and experiences can vary between graduates.

    • Currently Woodside is an Australian company with the majority of its interests limited to Australia. However, I anticipate this will change as the company expands globally over the next 5-10 years.

    • Bureaucratic. Lack of support from senior engineers - due to their heavy workload, not from lack of trying.
