About this course

Anthropology is the study of what it means to be human through the lens of cultural diversity. Sociology examines how human actions in modern societies are shaped by social groups and by wider social, economic and political pressures. The Anthropology and Sociology major draws upon the combined strengths of these two related fields to enhance interdisciplinary research and professional practice. You will focus on both local and global contexts, particularly in Australia, South Asia, South-East Asia, East Asia and the Pacific. You will explore how cultural practices, institutions, social groups and everyday lives are being transformed within the context of globalised communication and economic, political and environmental change. You will also learn practical and conceptual skills to respond to global and local change. This major allows you to explore contemporary issues including family, sport, gender relations, media, education, work and economic change, community development, health, crime and human rights.
