About this course

Social workers are committed to social justice, human rights and social change. They work with and alongside individuals, groups and communities to improve people’s quality of lives and promote positive relationships and human rights advocacy. This degree can provide you with the knowledge and skills to become a professional social work practitioner. You will have the opportunity to study in-depth human behaviour and complex social processes. Social work draws on knowledge from a range of disciplines including sociology, psychology, politics, philosophy, health, and economics. The course focuses on how people understand each other and the interactions between people, their communities and society. In this course, you can use purpose-built teaching spaces and resources to facilitate innovative learning and help you develop the knowledge, skills and values necessary for counselling with individuals and groups, working with adults, the elderly and children and young people. You will be encouraged to be self aware, to critically reflect and to understand how people relate to each other and their environments. Field education forms a significant part of your learning. Two field placements allow you to apply your learning in a range of practice settings with supervision from a qualified social work practitioner.   Curtin’s Bachelor of Social Work course received Five Star ratings across all the eight categories in the Good Universities Guide 2019, including teaching quality, learner engagement, learning resources, student support, skills development, full-time employment and salary. The course was ranked number one nationally (subject rankings) in the University Reviews Australian Ranking 2017. Please refer to the handbook for additional course overview information.
