CQUniversity Australia (CQU) Courses

• A completed 3 year bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian university or college, or equivalent overseas qualification; or
• A CQUniversity Graduate Certificate in Management.

International Students or domestic students born outside of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa or USA must meet English Language Proficiency requirements. Minimum scores required are:

• IELTS (Academic) score of at least 6.0 (with no band score less than 5.5), or
• TOEFL overall score of 75 with no score less than 17, or
• Pearson Test of English Academic overall score of 54 with no score less than 46, or
• Cambridge English Advanced overall test score of 169 (with no individual band score of less than 154).

English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study.

The above are minimum entry requirements.

Advanced Standing:

Advanced standing of up to 24 credit points may be granted for students who have completed a Bachelor or Honours degree in a related cognate discipline from an Australian tertiary institution or equivalent overseas qualification

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to enrol in this course, you must first apply to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency for registration in Australia (AHPRA). AHPRA will assess your application and determine your eligibility to work as a registered nurse. If you are not found to be immediately eligible for registration you may be referred to an Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Registered Nurses (EPIQ RN). The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) is an EPIQ RN.

Applicants must be referred by the AHPRA/NMBA to undertake an "NMBA-approved bridging program of study". A copy of this referral must be supplied with your application. NMBA/AHPRA referrals have an expiry date. CQUniversity will only accept applicants who are able to complete the requirements of the course prior to the expiry date. Students are responsible for ensuring they have sufficient time to complete the course (including work-integrated learning).

Domestic students from non-English speaking backgrounds may be required to undertake an academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum achievement of 7 across all bands and overall prior to undertaking work-integrated learning. This is in order to meet Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 5.6. At the discretion of the Head of Course, students may be referred to an internal English short course at their own expense. This is in order to meet Australia Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standard 2.2.

This course is tailored to students who wish to complete the course in one term.

• International Student Visa holders must complete all 3 units concurrently as internal students.
• International Student Visa holders must attend the compulsory Orientation Week.

• Internal study will only be available from the Cairns and Rockhampton campuses.

• Students on other visas may complete the course part-time in the following order: NURS20160, NURS20163, NURS20164.

Students have the choice of studying full-time or part-time. The full course requires completion of three units; however, on Head of Course approval, recognition of prior learning can result in the reduction in the number of units required. Recommended study for each unit is 12.5 hours per week.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants are required to provide evidence of a minimum of 2 years independent experience in a clinical setting relevant to their below qualification, AND

• a completed Australian Bachelor of Paramedic Science, or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent, OR
  
• a completed Australian Advanced Diploma, Intensive Care Paramedic, or equivalent qualification in advanced practice, OR
  
• a completed Australian Diploma of Paramedic Science, OR
  
• current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration as a Registered Nurse.

English Language Proficiency Requirement:

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

• a secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
  
• bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores as below.

• An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
  
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 550 or better overall & minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or
  
• Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
  
• An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

Each student will be assessed individually.

There is no recommended pre-study required for entry into this course.

Students are required to possess

1) an undergraduate degree; or

2) five years experience in a safety science related role in upper or middle management; or

3) three years experience in a safety science related role and a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Work Health and Safety.

Students applying on the basis of experience may be required to provide evidence of writing skills.

Students who would like to join this course but have not attended university level studies previously and do not feel confident in their academic skills may benefit from enrolling in one of the CQUniversity bridging courses such as STEPS to prepare for their studies. Students who have not studied at university previously are also recommended to enrol in GOAS "Getting Optimistic About Study" a free unit which provides additional study skills support.

You may be considered for admission to the Doctor of Professional Studies course if you:

• have been awarded a masters degree either by research or with a substantial element of research work within it, from a University or any other approved higher education institutions; or
• have qualified for the award of a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline with first class or second class honours conferrred by a University or any other approved higher education institution; or
• hold, from an institution of tertiary education, qualifications which are deemed by the Committee to be equivalent to either of the two points listed above.

The Doctor of Professional Studies is a program of research and study, undertaken independently and with guidance from two academic supervisors.

Entry requirement:

• a completed bachelor degree in any discipline from an Australian university or college, or
• a completed CQUniversity Graduate Certificate of Positive Psychology, or equivalent.

English Requirements:

If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University. Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

• a secondary qualification (Year 11 or 12, or equivalent), or
• tertiary diploma level qualification, or
• bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 4.0 completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores as below.

• An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or

Students must hold current nursing registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority (AHPRA).

Education for registration as a nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority (AHPRA).

Entry Requirement:

A 3 year Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.

Advanced Standing:

The following applicants may be eligible for a shorter course duration:

Course duration (1.5 year - 12 units equivalent)

* Applicants with a recognised Bachelor degree in a related discipline and 2 years postgraduate relevant work experience.

Course duration (1 year - 8 units equivalent)

* Applicants with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Public Health.

* Applicants with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in a related discipline and 2 years postgraduate relevant work experience.

Students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Public Health from another institution would be eligible for credit for up to four units from the core or elective/specialisation units on entry into the Master of Public Health.

Students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in another health related discipline would be eligible for credit for up to four units from the electives/specialisation units on entry into the Master of Public Health.

Students who have complete a Graduate Diploma in another health related discipline would be eligible for credit for up to six units from the electives/specialisation units on entry to the Master of Public Health.

It is recommended students have completed a health related degree.
